One-on-one Tutoring
Whenever there are large numbers of learners in a class it becomes extremely difficult to give every single learner the attention that they deserve.
The average class size in South Africa is somewhere between 30 and 40 and erring on the higher side. The result of having to teach such large classes, is that some learners are bound to fall behind as they do not all understand concepts at the same rate.
This is clearly a situation where one-on-one tutoring compliments classroom teaching. Private one-on-one tutoring works because the tutor can give 100% of his or her attention to the individual child and can adapt the way he or she teaches to suit the personality and ability of the child in question.
However it is not always because of the high numbers in a class that a learner may fall behind – there are other circumstances. For example there could be a disruptive element in the class or there could even be a clash between teacher’s methods and a particular learner’s way of understanding this work. There could even be circumstances at home that affect a learner’s ability to do homework or even affect the child’s ability to concentrate in class.
In any of these cases a child would benefit from one-on-one tutoring. All of Hire Education’s tutors are selected firstly on their academic excellence, and they are carefully screened before we allow them to go out into the field. Each one must prove to us not only their ability to understamd a subject but also their ability to teach it.
