In Gauteng Province some 78% of all teachers have classes of more than 35 learners and 32% of all teachers have classes of more than 46 learners. These figures are unacceptably high, and contribute to fact that many learners have a low achievement rate. There has been much research done into the effect of class size on a learner's achievement. Where there are smaller classes, teachers know each of their learners better, and can keep track of how each learner is doing on the learning task of the moment. This knowledge enables the teacher to intervene more effectively to help the individual learner make progress. In a situation where the classroom dynamic does not allow for individual attention, 1 on 1 tuition is always worth considering as a supplement to your child's education. 1 on 1 tuition enables the tutor to get to know the learner's ability personally and to implement the exact approach to put the learner back on course.

It is also based on his or her ability to assess each individual learner's academic situation and to explain the work in the correct way, thereby being able to instigate the correct solution method to ensure success of the 1 on 1 tuition.
