About Us
Hire Education is a tutoring company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We provide tutors across South Africa, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.
Our founder, Rory Brachner, started tutoring whilst studying way back in 2001. "I was always good at maths, but even better at explaining it" Rory was so good at tutoring that he got far more requests than he could possibly service himself. That's when the penny dropped. "I've got more learners than I can handle... why not find and train others to do the same thing I'm doing?". Rory, by that time, a 2nd year student, hired a fellow student as his first tutor in 2001. By the time he qualified and left university at the end of 2002 (to work for a listed technology company) he had 10 students working for him as tutors. He registered Hire Education in 2003 and we now have hundreds of tutors across South Africa. Rory, with the help of an amazing team, has managed to spread and expand our tutoring philosophy and brand across the country.
Essentially, Hire Education is a tutoring company that takes the rich resource of bright young university students (with a natural teaching and mentoring ability) and connects them to school learners in need of assistance.
The rapid growth and continued success of Hire Education is testament to the huge need for a service like ours - providing individual attention and mentoring in the form of tutoring.

Our Team
Rory Brachner
Strategy Guru
Rory Brachner is the founding member of Hire Education. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc IT) from the University of Johannesburg (formerly Rand Afrikaans University). This led him into a project management role in a listed information technology company. Since 2004 Rory has filled the role of General Manager for the company and as of 2009 he has taken on more strategic role in the development of the company.
Robyn Cameron
Management Guru
Robyn Cameron has been working with Hire Education since May 2007 initially in a sales and marketing role for 2 years. Robyn can handle pretty much anything you throw at her! As a result, in 2009, Robyn became a shareholder and General Manager. She is committed to keeping up the high levels of service and dedication that the company has become renowned for.
Brett Volkwyn
Marketing Guru
Brett Volkwyn joined Hire Education in March 2011. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Communications in Marketing and Advertising from Bond South Africa. After completing this degree in 2005, Brett has gone from strength to strength in his career working his way up from Marketing Assistant, to Project Manager for Alliance Media and then Account Executive for Straight Twisted Ad Agency. Brett now lends us his expertise and manages the sales and marketing for Hire Education.
Dhevina Panday
Education Guru
Dhevina Panday has been our eyes and ears on the ground in Durban since April 2010. Her role is the recruitment of new tutors and the continued management of these tutors and their lessons. Dhevina is currently a teacher at Shakaskraal Primary School and has a passion for Education in South Africa. As well as having over 18 years of hands-on teaching experience, Dhevina has been a Regional Finalist for the National Teaching Awards in 2006 as well as a Provincial Finalist in 2007.
Leigh Bowden
Education Guru
Leigh Bowden is our Cape Town Tutor Manager and has been actively recruiting and managing tutors since January 2011. Leigh is currently a lecturer at Varsity College and has a passion for not only special needs facilitation in South African education, but also the psychology behind teaching and learning. Leigh likes a hands on approach when working with learners and as such she is a strong support for tutors within her area.
Kelly Crear
Psychometrist
Kelly Crear completed her BA Honours degree in Psychology from UJ, in 2010. During her studies she tutored a number of learners in a variety of subjects. After achieving fantastic results, Kelly was promoted to training tutor. More recently she has completed her psychometric internship at Sci-bono. As of March 2012, Kelly returned to Hire Education and is now forging a new role within our company.
